“Shia Muslims in Lebanon”, 1st Work Published in Iran on Imam Musa Sadr
-- “Shia Muslims in Lebanon” is a book featuring Imam Musa Sadr’s life and memories collected and translated in 1972 at his own request by Hojat-ol-Islam Mir Abulfath Da’wati.
The book, which has been republished in 9 editions by Be’sat Publications, includes a historical record of Lebanese Shias’ activities led by Imam Musa Sadr.
It covers topics like “A View of Lebanon”, “First Steps”, “Toward the Goals”, “Knowing Shia Supreme Parliament”, “Some Useful Attempts by Shia Supreme Parliament”, “Sadr’s Articles”, “Some Useful Attempts by Musa Sadr”, “Toward the Solidarity of World’s Muslims”, “A List of Attempts by Lebanon’s Higher Shia Council”, “Imam Musa Sadr”, and “Sadr in Cairo”.
According to the preface written by Hojat-ol-Islam Da’wati, “Seyyed Musa Sadr came to Iran in 1971 and stayed for about a month. In reply to friends wanting to know about his activities in more detail, he referred to some of his extensive attempts in Lebanon and other Islamic countries which were then collected and published as a book by the Be’sat Publications.”
The book also refers to some of Imam Musa Sadr’s books and articles such as a long introduction to “History of Islamic Philosophy” by Henry Corbin; an introduction to “The Holy Quran and Natural Sciences” by Yusef Marvah; an introduction to “Fatemah Al-Zahra” by Soleiman Katani, Lebanese scholar; as well as a number of pamphlets like “Islam and Civilization in the Present Century”, “Islam and Social Discipline”, and “Islam, Improvement and Perfection”.
As stated in the book, Imam Musa Sadr believes that the western civilization has corrupted people’s religious spirit and undermined leaders’ abilities to illuminate the public minds; moreover, people have no clear understanding of the Zionist threat, nor do they know how to fight against their evil plots. Therefore, both people and leaders have roles in creating such negligence. He maintains, though, that religious figures are in a way less responsible.
The first chapter of the book presents a short history of the political and geographical situation in Lebanon as well as the activities performed by late Seyyed Abdul-Hossein Sharaf Al-Din on behalf of Imam Musa Sadr, and the process of electing Musa Sadr as the leader of Lebanese Shias.
Also, some of Imam Musa Sadr’s activities including the establishment of women association, charity and Islamic research center, his attempts to provide proper recreations for the youth, as well as his trips especially to African countries are presented in separate chapters.
There are also references to some useful attempts by Lebanon’s Higher Shia Council such as preparing people to fight against Israel and building shelters for women and children, as well as forming “Nusrat-ol-Jonub” group.
