TEHRAN (IQNA) – The closing ceremony of the 5th European Quran competition was held in Stockholm, Sweden, on Sunday.

The city’s Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center hosted the competition, and the closing ceremony.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mohsen Hakim Elahi, the director of the center, told IQNA that the final round of the contest in different categories was held on Sunday morning.

He said that winners of the competition were announced and awarded at the closing ceremony later in the day.

According to the cleric, Mohammad Mohammadi from Malmo, Sweden, bagged the top prize in the category of Quran recitation for adults.

Seyed Abbas Ali from Hamburg, Germany, was the runner up and Mohammad Mohsen Jafari from Stockholm, Sweden, came third.

In Adhan recitation (call to prayer), Qadir Maftuhi from Milan, Italy, Saeed Akbari from Denmark, and Hassan Fahim from Helsinki, Finland were announced as the three top winners.

Fazil al-Imara from Sweden was the top Quran memorizer and Hoda Ahmadi, also from Sweden, came first in the category of Quranic concepts, which was held for women.

This year’s European Quran competition had started at the center on Friday.

The contenders were from European countries like Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Italy and Germany.

The annual contest, according to the organizers, aims to promote the Quranic culture and teachings, enhance unity in the Quranic community of Europe, identify Quranic talents among European Muslims, and serve as a venue for Quran activists to exchange their experiences.
