Algeria Int’l Quran Contest Winners Announced

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Winners of the 15th edition of Algeria’s international Quran competition were awarded at the closing ceremony Monday night.

 

According to al-Shoruq news website, the Grand Mosque in the capital, Algiers, hosted the ceremony.

Muhammad Issa, the North African country’s Awqaf and Religious Affairs Minister, announced the winners, saying that Abdul Aziz Shukri from the host country came first.

The runner-up was Mohammad Hajj Asa’ad from Syria and the third rank winner was Aiman bin Ahmed from Tunisia.

Iran’s representative Mohammad Mahmoudi is failed to win any titles.

Representatives of 53 countries participated in this edition of the international Quranic contest.

A national Quran memorization competition for children and teenagers under the age of 15 was held on the sidelines of the event.

The international competition is annually held in the categories of Quran memorization, Tajweed recitation and Tafseer (Quran interpretation).

It has been organized in Algeria every year since 2003 and is sponsored by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
