TEHRAN (IQNA) – In a ceremony held in Marib province of Yemen, 44 women who have memorized the Quran were honored for their achievement.

According to Akhbar al-Yaman website, the women are from different provinces of the Arab country.

Yemeni Awqaf Minister Ahmed Atiya was present at the ceremony, held on Thursday.

He praised the women for their hard work to learn the entire Quran by heart.

The Awqaf minister also underlined the need for women’s participation in social activities.

He said women have the enormous responsibility of raising the next generation and the government of Yemen appreciates their efforts to fulfil this important role.

Quranic activities are common in Yemen despite an ongoing aggression against the country by a Saudi-led coalition.

Since March 2015, the Saudi regime, together with a coalition of its allies, has been striking Yemen.

It has been attempting unsuccessfully to reinstall Yemen’s former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who was a staunch ally of Riyadh until he resigned.

The Saudi campaign has killed at least 15,000 people since its onset. Furthermore, much of the country’s infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and factories, has been reduced to rubble in the Saudi war.
