According to dar-al-quran.org website, the holy city of Karbala is hosting the three-day contest.
It has been organized by the Dar-ol-Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in cooperation with the Warith al-Anbiya University.
Memorization, recitation and Tafseer (interpretation) of the Holy Quran are the main themes of the Quranic event.
It is aimed at promoting the Quranic culture in universities and academic centers and identifying Quranic talents among university students, the organizers say.
Ten teams from the universities of Babil, Baghdad, Karbala, Basra, Wasit, Muthanna, Warith al-Anbiya, and University of Technology are competing in the Quranic contest.
Quranic activities have significantly developed in Iraq since the 2003 overthrow of former dictator Saddam Hussein.
There has been a growing trend of Quranic programs such as competitions, recitation sessions and educational programs held in the country in recent years.
