Expert Urges Separate Quran Competition for Visually-Impaired Women
Speaking to IQNA, Badriya Haji al-Abdoli referred to the participation of two visually-impaired contenders in the women’s Quran contest, and said an independent international Quran competition for women who are visually-impaired would be more just and fair.
She added that those who are blind have special ability to learn and memorize the Quran by listening to recitation of its verses.
Such Quranic events are opportunities for the visually-impaired to showcase their Quranic talents, al-Abdoli said.
She stressed, however, that it would be better and more fair if they could compete with those like themselves who are blind.
As for the best participants in the competition, she said representatives of Algeria, Iran and Lebanon had the best performance.
Elsewhere, she said it is her first experience as an arbiter in an international Quranic event, noting that she has previously served in panels of judges in Kuwait’s domestic Quran contests.
Al-Abdoli, who is an arbiter in the field of Lahn, said that unlike in Kuwait, panels of judges in Iran’s Quran competitions are very specialized and each arbiter analyses the contenders’ performance from a specialized perspective.
She further hailed Iran for hosting the international Quran contests and expressed hope that she could attend such Quranic events in Iran in the future as well.
