Dubai Int’l Quran Award Winners to Be Awarded Tonight
According to al-Bayan daily, the city’s Industry and Trade Chamber will host the closing event.
Sami Qarqash, the public relations officer of the competition’s organizing committee, said the closing ceremony will include recitation of verses from the Quran by some of the contenders, speeches by the committee’s officials, and announcing the winners.
Quran memorizers from some 100 countries took part in this year’s edition of the international contest.
Representatives of eight countries, including Russia, Albania, Norway and Slovakia, failed to make it to the main round of the competition.
The contestants were aged between 6 and 21, according to Ahmed Zahed, another official with the committee.
Winners of the three top titles will receive cash prizes of 250,000, 200,000 and 150,000 UAE dirhams, respectively.
Part of DIHQA is the Islamic Personality of the Year Award, which this year goes to Emirati philanthropist Juma Al Majid for his “lifelong service to humanity”.
The Dubai international Holy Quran award is annually held in the holy month of Ramadan on memorization of the entire Quran.
Mohamamd Reza Valimohammadi is representing Iran in the competition this year.
