Noran Omar, the creative media director of the event, said all of the organizers have immigrant parents and wanted to foster a sense of community among Muslims and other groups.
There will be about 50 vendors and special events are scheduled throughout the day, like a hot-dog eating contest and cooking demonstrations, according to The New York Times.
New York Halal Food Festival will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
