TEHRAN (IQNA) –Jordan on Sunday summoned the Zionist regime’s ambassador in Amman over Israeli violations in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, demanding the immediate halt of provocative Israeli practices.

Sufian Qudah, spokesperson of Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a statement that the Israeli transgressions fuel the tension and represent a violation to the international law.

He added that Zeid Louzi, the ministry's secretary general, met with the Israeli ambassador and handed a letter demanding the Israeli government to stop its violations and attempts to alter the historic status quo in the mosque, Xinhua reported.

Qudah said that Jordan expressed its strong condemnation of the remarks by Israeli interior security minister on attempts to change the status quo in the mosque and allow Zionist settlers to pray in the mosque and its compound.

He stressed the ministry's rejection and condemnation of the closure of mosque's gates and putting restrictions on worshippers.
