Quran Contest for Teenagers in Quetta, Pakistan, on Eid

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran recitation competition has been planned for teenagers in Quetta, Pakistan, on the occasion of Eid al-Ghadir.

 

The competition will be held at the city’s Yazdan Khan school on Tuesday.  

There will be other programs to celebrate the occasion, as well as Pakistan’s Independence Day, including sport contests and speeches in Urdu and English.

This year, Eid al-Ghadir falls on Tuesday, August 20.

The event of Ghadir, or Eid al-Ghadir, is celebrated by Shia Muslims around the world every year. It is among important feasts and happy holidays of Shia Muslims held on the 18th day of Dhul Hijja in the lunar Hijri calendar.

It was the day when according to reports, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) as his caliph and the Imam after himself following an order from God.

Islam is the state religion of Pakistan, and about 98% of Pakistanis are Muslim. It is estimated that some 20 percent of the Pakistani population is Shia Muslim.
