--Islam secures women’s rights, gives them a high and lofty status and protects their dignity and respect.
This is according to the head of the Judiciary, Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, who was speaking to a number of prominent women, including Hozeh (Islamic seminary) and university professors, Majlis (Islamic consultative body) members and Judiciary personnel, on the occasion of Hazrat Zahra’s (SA) birthday anniversary which marks women’s day in Iran.

He said that while women have a lofty status according to Islamic teachings and values, the so-called advocates of women’s rights in the west are actually doing greatest harm to women.

“Today, the status of men and women in western societies has been undermined by the implementation of some erroneous theories which disregard the nature of men and women. That is why we see that in those societies the role of family is on decline and love and compassion are becoming rare,” he maintained.

He noted that all through the magnificent history of Islam, women have played a significant role in all areas especially in spreading the message of Islam. “Islam emphasizes that women and men have equal rights, but different roles in society as they are different in Fetrat (nature). Islamic societies should not to be deluded by the lies and slogans of the so-called advocates of women’s rights in the west, as it is through Islam that women can secure their rights and their dignity.”

Head of the Judiciary also extended felicitations to all Muslims on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of Haztrat Zahra (SA) -the beloved daughter of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
