-- In his book “Al-Hoda Ela Din-e Al-Mostafa” (Guide to Prophet Mohammad’s Sharia), Allameh Balaghi follows a set of logical arguments to challenge those who are opposed to Islam and the holy Quran and his argumentative skills are evidence of his mastery of theological codes and expressions.
The book is an example of Allameh’s innovative mind and extensive knowledge as well as his mastery over the history of religions. He could disclose through his book the erroneous methods used by some opponents in questioning the Quran and Islamic rules.
Using a fair method in his arguments, Allameh managed to write one of the best books on interfaith dialogue and the best document for the history of religions and comparative studies on them, as well as a perfect guide to logical discussions.
While disclosing the lies and hypocritical intentions of some Christian preachers, the book warns the Muslim youth of the dangers that these colonialist orientalists can create.
Among the themes discussed in the book are: Christian preachers and their differences; unreliability of the Old and New Testaments due to occasional distortion of one by the other; the Prophet’s (PBUH) mission and its goals; logical and narrative views of the Prophet’s infallibility; oppositions to the infallibility and the respective critiques; ascribing sins to prophets and the replies; prophets’ status among people and their purity and innocence in view of the Quran; miracles and replies to the oppositions; contrast of the New Testament with the Christ’s invitation; absolving the Christ of the contradictions found in the New Testament; transformations in the Bible and Quran; replying to the questions on the Quran regarding its Arabic language and relevant sciences like discourse and interpretations, history, etc.; and differences of date in the Testaments.
The 2-volume book which makes up the third and fourth chapters of Allameh’s encyclopedia includes the research work of the shia researcher As’ad Al-Tayyeb which has been published by the Islamic Science and Culture Research Center in 799 pages in Arabic language.
The first section of the book introduces Allameh Balaghi as a grand thinker and scholar of Najaf Seminary and investigates his inclinations to do research on the Bible. Strong reasoning, succinct arguments especially in “Ậlâ Al-Rahman fi Tafsir Al-Quran”, and using various Shia and Sunni sources are characteristics of Allameh’s strategy according to As’ad Al-Tayyeb.
The book has been compiled in 14 introductory chapters. The first 7 chapters include frequent symbols in the Old and New Testaments, Revelation in the Old and New Testaments, time differences in the revelation of the holy books according to the Testaments, contrast of the themes and ordering of the Old and New Testaments with the order of revelation, the prophets’ ecstatic state at the time of revelation according to the Old and New Testaments, rejecting the Jewish sect and the Christianity they practice, unreliability of the ways Muslims are portrayed in the Testaments, as well as the rules of dialogue and interaction.
The eighth introductory chapter which is devoted to mission and prophethood comes in two parts: the first elaborates on Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and his infallibility and includes Allameh’s strong arguments in replying the respective oppositions, while the second part compares in 16 chapters—each corresponding to one prophet—the divine status of the prophets in the Bible and the holy Quran. The 16th chapter of the second part is on Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and his infallibility.
Elaboration of Prophet Mohammad’ (PBUH) divine mission and introduction of the holy Quran as his everlasting miracle are the themes of the 9th introductory chapter; while the next three chapters deal with themes like the transformer and transformed in Noah’s Sharia according to the Old Testament, fasting in the Old and New Testaments, absolving the Christ of the contradictions found in the New Testament, transformations in the Old and New Testaments and the Quran, differences of date in the New Testaments, as well as some points about the prophets in the Old testament.
The 13th chapter replies to the oppositions on the holiness of the Quran, misunderstanding of some interpreters and linguists as well as questions on the Quran’s view of the creation of the sky and earth, historical stories of the Quran, and it’s Arabic language.
It also includes themes like differences of date in the Testaments, investigation of Quran’s verses on Abraham (AS), Joseph (AS), and David (AS), promise and allegiance in the Quran compared to the Old and New Testaments, as well as the Prophet’s ascension to heaven.
And finally the 14th chapter is in four parts namely the spiritual realm; prophethood and prophets; resurrection, reward and punishment according to the Old and New Testaments; and Sharia in the Testaments. It also covers other themes such as Jesus Christ in the New Testament, ethical rules in the Old and New Testaments, holding rituals and praying ceremonies, food and clothes, purity and impurity, marriage and divorce, war and jihad, religious politics and inheritance.
