This is in line with Malaysia's growing image as a model of a modern Islamic state, he said at the close of the National Wakaf (inheritance distribution) Program 2010.
His text of speech was read by army chief Datuk Seri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin.
The National Wakaf Program was launched jointly by the Defence Ministry and the Restu Foundation in August last year and to date RM1 million had been raised to support the endeavor.
Ahmad Zahid said under the program, copies of Quran were being donated to minority Muslim communities in Cambodia, China, Vietnam and Russia with translation in their mother tongues.
