The actualization of the Supreme Leader’s demand for translating Persian works into other languages requires the cooperation of the representatives of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance said.
Addressing the members of Majlis Cultural Commission in a meeting that was held on May 7 in Tehran’s 25th International Book Fair, Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini referred to two pressing issues in the publication industry that requires special heed by Majlis, adding that “the first is providing domestic publishers with paper at reasonable price which has been partly maintained.”
“The second cultural concern which has also been stressed by the Supreme Leader Imam Khamenei is translating our valuable works into other languages and this requires a teamwork attempt to find and translate the best published works in the country,” he went on to say.
“This year, the exhibition accommodates 2500 national publishers,” Hosseini added, expressing hope that launching the stable venue of the fair would make room for more pavilions in the following years.
He further referred to the considerable number of visitors of the book fair which far exceeds that of other exhibits, noting that almost 60% of the visitors come from other provinces in the country.
“Last year, Iran was ranked 10th in the world by publishing 69000 volumes of books, including 39% of the publication in the Islamic world.”
Also speaking at the meeting was Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, head of Majlis Cultural Commission, who highlighted the book fair as a place visited by all classes of people, calling it the best venue for the scholars and researchers.
“20 editions of the book fair have been so far held over the 33 years following the Islamic Revolution and this is witness to the fact that the publication industry is of prime importance to the cultural officials,” he noted.
After the meeting, members of Majlis Cultural Commission visited different pavilions of the exhibit.
