Muslim families in Guinea have to send their children to Christian schools due to lack of Islamic schools.
Guinean Shia activist and head of Al-Kawsar Institute Hawwa Adam Bari made the remark in an interview with IQNA, adding that many of those who go to Christian schools have little knowledge about Islamic teachings.
She said establishment of Islamic institutes and organization of Islamic forums and conferences can help to fill the current gap.
She referred to verse 32 of Surah Al-Tawba, “They want to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah refuses except to perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it,” stressing for promotion of Islam and its teachings.
Hawwa Adam Bari said establishment of Islamic organizations for women is a good idea for elevating the status of Muslim women in society.
She said in organizations for both men and women, there is no concentration on issues related to women. “If an institution is founded specifically for women, it can consider women’s issues in a specialized way and present solutions to their problems.”
The Guinean woman said she plans to set up a national-Islamic institute for women in which Shia, Sunni, and Christian women and even those with little religious beliefs can take part in discussions and express their views freely.
She said such an institute would promote Islam and introduce it to non-Muslims and help Muslims to develop their knowledge about Islam.
Asked about Muslim women’s duties and responsibilities, Hawwa Adam Bari said Muslim women ought to enhance their knowledge about the religion by reading the Quran and Hadiths by the Infallible (AS).
She cited the story of her conversion to Shia Islam, saying that she first had no knowledge of Shiism and considered Hanafi, Hanbali, Maliki and Shafei to be the only main Islamic schools of thought.
Hawwa Adam Bari learned about Shiism after meeting with a man who would later become her husband.
She said the first book about Shiism that her husband gave her was about the life of Hazrat Zahra (SA), which was very inspiring.
“The second book was Ma’alam-ul-Madrasatayn, which featured the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and what happened after his demise as well as reasons for rightfulness of Shia Islam.”
Elsewhere in her remarks, she pointed to the recent developments in Syria and the warmongering polices of the US and other colonialist Western countries, and described the situation in Syria as heart-rendering.
She said the West is trying to foment discord among Muslims and weaken Islam under the pretext of opposing Bashar Al-Assad.
“What we are witnessing in Algeria, Libya, Tunisia and other Muslim countries today is that the foreigners are meddling in these countries affairs,” she stated.
