TEHRAN (IQNA) - Prof Shakeel Samdani from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), India, criticized how the image of Muslims, Islam and the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is portrayed by the western media.

“These assertions (by the western media) have no iota of truth as Islam and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) have given the concept of peace, tolerance and co existence and the Prophet always advised the Muslims to eschew violence,” Prof Samdani, the renowned faculty from AMU and president of Sir Syed Awareness Forum said earlier this week.

He was speaking on ‘Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Global Peace’ at Miya Sahab Islamia Inter College in Gorakhpur as the chief guest. He said that the last Prophet emphasized more on justice and education and his life is full of the examples of justice.
“When Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) declared his Prophethood at that time, there were only 17 literate persons in Mecca and exactly after 23 years when he left this world, there were many people who were not only literate but well educated and expert in Quran, Hadith, legal knowledge, literature, history etc. The most important feature of Prophet’s life was democratization of knowledge/ education. This achievement of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is unique in the history of Prophets,” he informed.
Prof Samdani further said that Islam has given equal protection to men and women and for the first time in the history of the civilized world, women were declared as owner of their body and soul. They were given share in property and their status was enhanced to such an extent that the road to jannah was declared to be through the mother, wife and the daughter. “It means that if a person wants to go to paradise, then he will have to respect the rights of women and restore them.
The AMU professor further urged the audience to lead their life in accordance with the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and devote their time and energy for constructive activities and spend their money for social work also. He also requested the audience to abstain from differences on the basis of schools of thoughts and remain united, a release said.
While replying a question related to present political scenario in India, Prof Samdani opined that India is a democratic country, where everyone is free to participate in political activity and the freedoms and liberties which we are enjoying in this country. “This is not available to Muslims in many other countries. We should be thankful to the Almighty Allah that we are getting so much freedom in socialist, secular, democratic republic that is India.”
Inaugurating the Islamic exhibition Prof Samdani congratulated the manager Rashid Kamal Samani, principal Zafar Ahmad Khan and convenor Mukhtar Ahmad. A three day Seerat Conference and state level competition was organized by the college in which large number of students from all over the state participated. The program was presided over by Dr Mirza Shafi Baig (London).
