TEHRAN (IQNA) - Egypt’s representative in the 5th International Quran Competition for Muslim Students described organizing Quran contests and encouraging Quranic activities as an example of Amri Bi Ma’rouf (Promotion of Virtue).

Mahmoud Kamaleddin Muhammad al-Najjar, who will compete for Egypt in the category of recitation, added that such competitions also play a major role in boosting unity among Muslims.
He said that Iran’s Quran competition also provide a venue for learning about new style of recitation.
Al-Najjar said he started learning the Quran by heart at the age of 6 and memorized the entire Holy Book at 9.
He said that his father encouraged him to learn Quran recitation as well and, thus, he went to various Quran masters to enhance his recitation skills.
The young Qari noted that he has been inspired by the stales of prominent Egyptian masters including Shahat Muhammad Anwar, Sheikh Talib Hassani, and Muhammad Umran as well as eminent Iranian reciter Hamed Shakernejad.
Al-Najjar further said while Egypt has introduced some of the most prominent Quran reciters to the Muslim world, there are no competitions in the country on recitation of the Quran and that all Quran contests feature memorization.
The 5th International Quran Competition for Muslim Students will be held at Milad Tower in Tehran on January 1-4, 2015.
Representatives of over 50 countries are expected to attend the event whose motto is ““Quran, Harbinger of Kindness, Unity and Human Dignity”.
