Tukhi was one of the greatest and most popular reciters of all time.
He became so popular that was named the Sheikh-ul-Qura (top Quran reciter) of Alexandria in Egypt.
Tukhi was born in a village in Egypt’s northern Manufia province in 1954. His father was a memorizer of the entire Quran.
Encouraged by his father, Abdul Munim began learning the Quran at an early age.
He, too, learned the entire Quran by heart at 9 and then started learning the principles of recitation and soon revealed his exceptional talent in the field.
Abdul Munim studied Quran recitation with prominent Qaris like Master Muhammad Raf’at and Master Abulainain Shuaisha and especially Master Mustafa Esmail.
He made trips to many countries like Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Britain and China to recite verses from the Holy Quran.
Sheikh Abdul Munim Tukhi died of kidney failure in 2007.
Here is his last recitation of Surah al-Rahman before his death.
