TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian Quran activist described the Thursday crush in Mina, near the holy city of Makkah, as a huge tragedy which should not be forgotten.

Heydar Kasmayi, a prominent Quran recite and director of the Hazrat Zahra (SA) Dar-ol-Quran Center in Qom, added that the country’s Quranic community should not remain silent over the tragic incident.

He said the Quranic community should adopt a clear and firm stance against the incompetence of the Saudi officials and their mismanagement in running the Hajj.

A crush of people killed around 2,000 Muslim pilgrims, including over 136 Iranians, in Mina on Thursday during the Hajj rituals.

Kasmayi said that he went on Hajj pilgrimage 25 years ago and at that time, too, the ineptitude of the Saudi officials in the Hajj affairs was obvious.

He went on to say that a committee comprising representatives of Muslim countries should be given the responsibility of running Hajj.

The Quranic figure further expressed sorrow over the death of so many Hajj pilgrims from different countries, including Iranians, especially two Quran reciters, Mohsen Hajihassani Kargar and Amin Bavi.
