It began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by prominent Qari Seyyed Javad Hosseini.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Ali asghar Shoaee, the secretary general of the festival, said 450 students from different provinces of the country compete in the three-day competition of the festival.
He added that the contest is a step toward strengthen the culture of Quran and Etrat.
Some 300,000 students took part in the preliminary stages of the competition, according to Hojat-ol-Islam Ahamad Abaedi, the chancellor of the University of Quranic Sciences and Teachings.
The three-day Quranic event is being held in categories like Tarteel and Tahghigh recitation and memorization.
