Dutch police said in a statement on Saturday that the attempted arson attack caused damage to the mosque, affirming that full investigation is underway in earnest to reveal the identity of the perpetrators, Anadolu Agency reported.
The statement called for witnesses or persons who have information to report the incident at police stations. It also explained that the targeted mosque, which was established last year, is the largest mosque in the area.
It may be mentioned here that eight people were fined by a Dutch court last month for calling through the Internet to carry out acts of violence and arson attacks against the mosques in the Netherlands.
Spanish Mosque Set On Fire In The Wake of Paris
Arsonists set fire to a mosque in the Spanish town of Don Benito in the early hours of Saturday in an attack suspected by the mayor to be in retaliation for a series of terrorist attacks in Paris, Europe Online Magazine reported.
Mayor Jose Luis Quintana said he had not ruled out the possibility that the fire was a revenge attack.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames. The entrance to the mosque was damaged but no casualties were reported.
"Whoever did that picked the wrong target," Mohammed Kattabi, a prominent Muslim figure in the community, said, adding that the town‘s 500 Muslims are well integrated within the local population of 40,000.
