This is according to Kim Kwang-jun, the secretary general of the Korean Conference of Religions for Peace, addressing the 5th round of dialogue between the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization’s (ICRO) Center for Interreligious Dialogue (CID) and the Korean Conference of Religions for Peace (KCRP).
"We in the KCRP make efforts to enhance our knowledge about Muslims so as to prevent misunderstanding about followers of Islam in society,” he said.
The KCRP, which takes into account different religions present in Korea, including Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, and Confucianism promotes the message of peace, he underlined.
He added that the KCRP plans to hold a seminar on Islam aimed at promoting understanding about Islam and Muslims.
According to Kim Kwang-jun, the main mission of the Korean Conference of Religions for Peace is to combat religious extremism.
It tries to identify and prevent issues that lead to extremism, he went on to say.
The two-day dialogue between Iran’s CID and South Korea’s KCRP began in Tehran, Iran, on Tuesday, January 26.
ICRO Chief Abuzar Ebrahimi Torkaman, head of the CID Abdol Rahim Gavahi, and officials of a number of religious centers from Iran, as well as Christian thinkers from South Korea are present in the interfaith meeting.
They deliver speeches and present papers on topics like religions’ teachings for establishment of peace, religious dialogue for promoting global peace and security, role of family and youths in upholding peace, and religions’ attention to protection of the environment.
The 4th edition of Iran-South Korea interfaith dialogue was held in January 2015, in the South Korean capital of Seoul.
