Islamic Revolution Was Moral, Peaceful, President Says

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani described the Islamic Revolution of Iran as a moral and peaceful one that was led to victory without any violence.

Addressing a huge rally at Tehran’s Azadi Square, held on Thursday to mark the 37th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, the President congratulated all Iranians on the occasion and said the people of the country managed to regain their independence though the revolution.

He also highlighted the religious origin of the uprising, saying that if it had not been for its religious basis and the leadership of a religious leader, the revolution would not have achieved victory.

Hojat-ol-Islam Rouhani noted that Islam, which was the origin of the revolution, is the messenger of justice, moderation, kindness and equality for all people.

He further referred to the current status of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the world and said the Iranian people have shown in the past few decades that they will not surrender to any foreign pressure and resist against any aggression.

People all over the Islamic Republic participated in rallies on Thursday to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution‘s victory.

The rallies were held in cities and towns across the country to commemorate the great victory.

On February 11, 1979, the monarchy of the Pahlavi regime in Iran was overthrown after months of public unrest and protest.

Elsewhere I his address, President Rouhani, stressed the need for massive participation in the upcoming elections in the country.

Iran will hold parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections on February 26.
