TEHRAN (IQNA) – Archbishop of Colombo Albert Malcolm Ranjith Patabendige Don described inter-religious dialogue as necessary in today’s world.

Speaking in a meeting with Mohammad Oraee Karimi Cultural, the Iranian cultural attaché in Sri Lanka, Malcolm Ranjith added that the Abrahamic faiths (Islam, Christianity and Judaism) need to develop dialogue and cooperation for resolving humanity’s problems, the website of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) reported.

He also referred to a recent visit to the Vatican by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and noted that Catholic leader Pope Francis attaches great importance to dialogue with Muslim leaders.

The Iranian cultural envoy, for his part, underlined that religious leaders can play a major role in spreading spirituality and promoting ethical values.

Karimi further highlighted the 30-year-long experience of the Islamic Republic of Iran in holding interfaith dialogue with Christianity and said the 10th edition of Islam-Christianity interfaith dialogue was organized by ICRO’s Center for Interfaith Dialogue earlier this year.
