TEHRAN (IQNA) – Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) seized a total of 135,970 Quranic texts and 5,299 materials worth RM430,337.73 from 2015 to Feb 29 this year.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim, said the seizures were made in 2,329 raids on 10,021 premises involved in the printing and selling of the Quran.

"We are sensitive when it comes to the printing and distribution of Quranic texts and materials that can be harmful to the people's welfare," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Among the common mistakes committed under the Printing of Quranic Text Act 1986 (APTQ) are printing Quranic texts without licence, importing the Quran illegally and mistakes in the Quran copies.

Alwi said MOHA's role is to regulate and ensure that Quranic texts and materials published, printed, imported and distributed, do not contain errors that can affect the Quran, to ensure its authenticity and to prevent abuse.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that those who come across Quranic texts and materials containing errors or without the endorsement of the Quran Control and Printing Licensing Board should report at 03-88868047, fax to 03-88891682 or visit the ministry's website (moha.spab.gov.my).
