Kuwait Int’l Quran Contest Kicks Off

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 7th edition of Kuwait’s international Holy Quran competition got underway in a ceremony in Kuwait City on Wednesday.



The opening ceremony was attended by a number of high-ranking officials including deputy prime minister Sabah Khaled.

Quran memorizers and reciters from different Muslim and non-Muslim countries will compete in the Quranic event until April 20.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is represented in the competition by Mohammad Mahmoudi and Ebrahim Tabassomchehreh.

Mahmoudi competes for Iran in the memorization of the entire Quran category while Tabassomchehreh competes in recitation of the Quran.

Top winners will be awarded at the closing ceremony, which is to be attended by the Emir of Kuwait.

The competition’s events are covered by several satellite TV channels, including Ithra, Ahl-ul-Quran, Iqra and al-Majd.

There is a Quranic exhibition mounted on the sidelines of the contest, in which one of the largest copies of the Quran, along with other items, are on display.
