TEHRAN (IQNA) – A group of Shia Muslims from Ukraine asked the Dar-ul-Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine to launch a branch in the Ukrainian capital.
The Mustabsirs (those who have converted to Shia Islam) were from al-Risala (the mission) Institute belonging to Ukrainian Shias, the website of the Astan reported.

They made the request during a recent visit to the holy city of Karbala, Iraq.

Ilaf Saedi, head of the institute, said it makes efforts to promote the Quranic culture and is keen to develop cooperation with the Dar-ul-Quran Center of the Astan in holding Quranic activities.

He also said the visit was aimed at learning about the Astan and its activities in different areas, including in Quranic fields.

Ten members of the al-Risala Institute, including some women, toured different parts of the Astan during the visit.

Islam is the fourth-largest religion in Ukraine where Muslims represent some two percent of the population. The religion has a long history in Ukraine dating back to the 15th century C.E.
