TEHRAN (IQNA) – An official with the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) called for developing cooperation with Indonesian religious and cultural institutions.

WFPIST Urges Enhanced Cooperation with Indonesian Religious Centers

Mohammad Hassan Tabarraeian, the forum’s international affairs deputy, met with Nassreddin Omar, the head of Jakarta’s Quranic Sciences College and Istiqlal Mosque in the Indonesian capital earlier this week.

During the meeting, Tabarraeian highlighted the status and activities of the WFPIST and called for expanding cooperation between the forum and Indonesian religious institutes, especially Nahdlatul Ulama, Muhammadiyah, and Majlis Ulama.

He further underlined the importance of unity in the Islamic world, which has been emphasized in the Quran and Hadiths.

Tabarraeian also urged Muslim vigilance in the face of plots hatched by the enemies of Islam and called for standing up against Takfiri groups.

Elsewhere in the meeting, he invited Nassreddin Omar to pay a visit to Iran.

Omar, for his part, stressed the need for unity between Shia and Sunni Muslims and noted that the two groups live peacefully together in Indonesia.

Indonesia has a larger Muslim population than any other country in the world, with approximately 203 million identifying themselves as Muslim (87.3 percent of Indonesia’s total population in 2011).
