TEHRAN (IQNA) – Qatar’s Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has distributed 280,000 copies of Holy Quran in the Philippines, Niger and Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone received 120,000 copies, distributed in collaboration with local partner ‘Itihad Al Duwat Al Muslimin’ (Muslims’ Preachers Union). The Philippines and Niger received 80,000 copies each.

A fresh contract has been signed between RAF and a publishing house to print 120,000 copies with translation in English, French, Spanish, Swahili, Chinese and Filipino.

About 25,000 copies each in English and French will be printed. Spanish and Swahili copies will be 22,000 each, and 21,000 copies will be printed in Filipino and 5,000 in Chinese.

The copies will be printed according to the pattern of a Saudi printing and publishing house ‘Dar Al Salam’ recognised by King Fahad Complex for the Printing of Holy Quran in Medinah.

It is part of a RAF plan to print a million copies and its translated versions and distribute in more than 50 countries worldwide.

Phase-I project includes printing and distribution of 490,000 copies in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.

The initial cost of the project is QR10m as printing and distribution of a copy of Holy Quran costs QR10.

The project is being financed by people in Qatar (citizens and expatriates) through donations to meet the growing demands for the copies of Holy Quran in some poor countries.

Muslims in poor countries, especially in Africa, need copies of Holy Quran as some villages has only one copy.
