Clerics Slam Bahraini Regime for Preventing Friday Prayers

Continuing their crackdown on Shias in Bahrain, authorities for the fourth consecutive week obstructed Friday prayers at Imam Sadiq (AS) Mosque in al-Diraz region on Friday, August 12.

The clerics in their statement deplored the move as an aggression on the identity of the Islamic community.

They described it as a sectarian move and oppression against the Shias in the Persian Gulf country.

In recent weeks, Bahrain's rulers have carried out an intensifying crackdown against Shias and leading figures from the Shia majority that has drawn criticism worldwide.

Authorities have stripped tens of Bahraini Shias, including leader of Bahraini Shias Sheikh Isa Qassem, of their citizenship.

The government of Bahrain has also suspended the main Shiite opposition party, al-Wefaq, accusing it of having links to foreign terrorists and inciting hatred.
