TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Iranian cleric hailed organization of various Quran competitions in the country, saying such events help to inspire the youth to get more aquatinted with the Holy Book.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Hassan Abutorabifard made the remark on Thursday in the awarding ceremony of the 39th Quran competition of Tehran province.

He added that those who want salvation both in this world and the next must resort to the teachings of the Holy Quran.

Hojat-ol-Islam Abutorabifard also said that the Islamic Revolution of Iran paved the path to promote people’s relation with the Quran and its teachings.

200,000 individuals took part in the preliminary stages of the contest in different categories like memorization, recitation, Tawasheeh (religious songs), and Islamic teachings.

204 contenders, 117 men and 87 women made it to the provincial stage, and the winners were announced and awarded on Thursday.

They will represent the province in the nationwide stage which is scheduled to be held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization in the northern province of Gillan in October.
