According to Buratha news agency, more than 200 media outlets from different countries are attending the event, which began on Friday.

They are from Iraq as well as Iran, Afghanistan, Tunisia, Yemen, Kuwait, Morocco, India, Algeria, Russia, France, Belgium, Ukraine, Britain and Germany, among others.

The media outlets participating in the festival have showcased their art, press and media products featuring the event of Ghadir.

A number of seminars and workshops will also be held on the sidelines of the festival.

The international festival is annually held by Iraq’s al-Ghadir satellite TV channel.

The event of Ghadir, or Eid al-Ghadir, is celebrated by Shia Muslims around the world every year. It is among important feasts and happy holidays of Shia Muslims held on the 18th day of Dhu l-Hijja in the lunar Hijri calendar.

It was the day when according to reports, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) as his caliph and the Imam after himself following an order from God.

That event happened in the Prophet’s (PBUH) Hajjat al-Wida (the Farewell Hajj), in the year 10 Hijri/632 A.D. in a place called Ghadir Khumm.

In Shia hadiths, the anniversary has been called "Eid Allah al-Akbar” (the greatest Eid of God).
