TEHRAN (IQNA) – Contenders in the recitation and memorization categories of Iran’s 39th national Quran competition began their bid for the top prizes on Wednesday.

According to IQNA dispatches, competitions in the two categories started today in Zibakenar, northern Iranian province of Gilan.

The national Quranic event got underway on Sunday with the participation of 750 Quran activists, 450 men and 300 women.

The categories of the Quranic event also include Tarteel and Tahghigh recitation of the Quran, memorization, and Adhan (call to prayers).

A number of top Quran masters of the country make up the competition’s panel of judges.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually holds the contest to promote Quranic activities and memorization and recitation of the Holy Book is society, especially among the youth.
