Quranic, religious and cultural figures and officials, including Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri attended the event, held at Mohammadiyeh Mosque.
A number of senior Qaris, including Mohammad Reza Pourzargari and Masoud Sayyah Gorji recited verses from the Holy Quran and Hojat-ol-Islam Lotfali delivered a speech in which he highlighted the status of the Holy Quran and Qaris.
Master Morovvat died in Toronto, Canada, last month after a long battle with a severe illness.
Born in 1944 in Tehran, Morovvat started learning the Quran with masters like Mulla Mohammad Baqer Fani and went on to become an eminent Quran reciter.
He also spent some time in Cairo to learn from senior Egyptian Qaris.
He was the first Iranian and Shia Muslim winning the top title at Malaysia’s international Holy Quran competition in 1973. He was also the first to establish choral Quran recitation sessions in Iran.
He was laid to rest at Tehran’s Behesht Zahra Cemetery on Sunday, October 29.
