TEHRAN (IQNA) – The first edition of an international Quran competition for women came to an end in a ceremony held in Dubai on Friday night.

Winners of the contest were announced and awarded at the closing ceremony, which was attended by the wife of UAE ruler Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

According to Samih Khalid Ahmed Athameneh, a Jordanian Quran scholar and member of the competition’s panel of judges, Zahra Hani from Algeria and Zakiya Abu Bakr Mahmoud Ilmi from Mozambique jointly received the top prize.

He told IQNA that representatives of Qatar, Afghanistan, Norway, the UAE, Pakistan, Niger, and Bangladesh came third to ninth, respectively.

Athameneh added that Iran’s representative Hannaneh Khalafi shared the tenth rank with Amina Jafar from Nigeria.

The first edition of the Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Holy Quran Competition started in Dubai on November 6.

More than 70 female Quran memorizers from different countries took part at the event to compete for the top prize in the category of memorization of the entire Holy Quran.

It was 9-year-old Khalafi’s first participation in international Quran competition.

She learned the entire Quran by heart at the age of 7 and came first in Iran’s national Quran competition in 2014.
