TEHRAN (IQNA) – The governor of Sokoto State in Nigeria underlined his determination to make efforts for development of Quranic education in the state.

According to leadership website, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal made the remark at the closing ceremony of a state-wide Quran competition on Monday.

He added that as part of such efforts, Quranic schools will be integrated into the state’s educational system.

Tambuwal said memorization of the Quran and enhancement of Islamic education are areas that will receive more attention in Sokoto.

He went on to say that restoration of existing mosques and Islamic schools and construction of new ones are also on agenda.

Nigeria is a country on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa.

About 50 percent of the country’s population is estimated to be Muslim, while 40 percent are Christians and 10 adhere to local religions.
