TEHRAN (IQNA) – A talk on Quranic Parenting delivered by Dr Widad binti Haji Abdul Aziz, a lecturer from the Faculty of Shariah and Law of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) was held recently at the i-Centre in Anggerek Desa, Brunei Darussalam.

Children Should Be Exposed to Quran from Early Age

It was organized by the Quran Project Brunei in collaboration with Al-Huffaz Management.

Dr Widad said children should be exposed to the Quran from an early age although some parents object such an approach as they argue that children should not be forced to do so at such an early age and choose to let them watch their favorite television program instead. Parents should bear in mind that not all cartoon series are good for children.

She insisted that Quran can be applied at an early age. It is not about strength or effort but Allah the Almighty has bestowed small children with the ability to memorize few verses from the Quran.

"We also want children to know Al-Quran, who gave the Al-Quran, who presented the Al-Quran, its contents and so on. The Quran should remain in their hearts,” she added.

She also added that social ills are occurring nowadays and will continue to happen if the community is not taking Quran seriously. Moral decadence among youths is rampant because religious education is not embraced at an early age.

"We see social problems, ... (we see) parents are not able to give advice in fear of flicking the hearts of their children. They let the social illness spread. Parents actually have a stake in contributing to the upliftment of their children,” she said.
