Huda Alatoum, an educator and high-profile MP for the Muslim Brotherhood, said that "far-reaching changes” have been introduced in Jordan’s school program that remove verses and hadiths "pertaining to Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) life.”

She said the omissions include 290 verses of the Quran and 82 Hadiths, IRNA reported.

They have been removed from guidance school and high school books on Islamic education, Islamic culture and Arabic language.

Also omitted from school books are contents related to Jihad, resistance against occupiers, the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and Islamic teachings.

"About 40 percent of the curriculum about Arabic language and Islam have been changed, including the removal of all reference to Jihad and opposing the occupation of Palestine,” Alatoum said.

She added that "even worse changes” are ahead.

The move has prompted criticism and objections from various groups and in social media.

"That’s what the West wants, a generation that knows nothing about its religion except prayer and fasting,” someone named Misbah tweeted. "They amend the curriculum pretending to root out extremism, but they introduce only corruption instead.”

Mohammed Bilal, another social media user called the new curriculum "American Islam,” saying, "Dr. Huda Alatoum, MP, talks about effectively teaching American Islam in her country. Allah forbid.”
