TEHRAN (IQNA) – In a ceremony held in Tehran on Friday, winners of a nationwide Quran competition organized by the Imam Ali (AS) Dar-ol-Quran Center were announced and awarded.

The closing ceremony of the contest was held at the Islamic Revolution Martyrs Cultural Complex in downtown Tehran with a number of religious, Quranic and cultural official in attendance.

It began with playing the country’s national anthem, followed by recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by internationally-acclaimed Iranian Qari Mohammad Reza Pourzargari.

Next, a message by grand Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani was read out in which he highlighted the divine rewards for those who serve the Holy Quran.

Head of the Imam Ali (AS) Dar-ol-Quran Center, Mohammad Ansari, then presented a report on the contest, saying more than 2700 individuals took part in the preliminary round, 1310 of whom made it to the finals.

He noted that 210 non-Iranian nationals also took part in this year’s competition.

Mehdi Qarasheikhlu, the director of the Dar-ol-Quran Karim Organization also addressed the event, praising the organizers for holding the competition without any help from the government.

He also noted that the competition’s panel of judges was formed by some of the country’s top Quran masters.

He expressed hope that the ground will be saved for more public participation in organizing Quranic events.

Later in the ceremony, those selected by the panel of judges as winners of top three titles in different categories receive their awards.

The tenth edition of the nationwide Quran competition was held from Monday, February 13, until Friday.
