TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, held Quran recitation sessions for the forces fighting against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in the northern city of Mosul.

According to Qaaf news agency, they were organized in the city’s recently liberated areas as part of Hashd al-Shaabi’s Quranic activities.

Recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, speeches on the meaning of Jihad in the Holy Book, and discussions on the virtues and concepts of the recited verses and Surahs were parts of the programs.

The Hashd al-Shaabi’s Quran experts also answered the forces’ questions about Quranic issues.

Such programs are regularly held with the aim of promoting acquaintance with the Quran and boosting the morale of the forces fighting Daesh.

The terrorist group overran large areas north and west of Iraq in 2014, but Iraqi forces have since regained most of the territory they lost.

The operation to retake Mosul -- the last Daesh-held city in the Arab country -- was launched on Oct. 17.
