According to the website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine, the program will be held in cooperation with the custodians of the holy shrines of Imam Ali (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) as well as the holy shrines in Kadhimayn.
Seyyed Afdhal Al-Shami, deputy of the Astan’s Secretary General in cultural and intellectual affairs, said that the main objective of the festival is to disseminate Islam's message of peace, kindness, peaceful coexistence and moderation in the Pakistani society.
The activities of the custodianships of the holy sites in Iraq will be introduced to Pakistani Muslims during the festival, he added.
The cultural program will include book fairs, photo exhibitions, and Quranic activities. Also, the flags of the holy shrines will be raised in Islamabad and other cities of Pakistan.
The official said that various cultural contests will also be held during the festival, and five winners of the contests in different cities of Pakistan will be gifted pilgrimage packages to Iraq’s holy sites.
The third edition of the festival was organized in cooperation with Al-Kawthar Islamic University of Pakistan in March 2016.
