The incident occurred on Friday, when a stolen truck plowed into a crowd outside the busy Ahlens department store on the central street of Drottninggatan in Stockholm, killing four people and wounding 15 others.

The driver fled the scene but hours later security forces announced that they had arrested him. They added that the alleged driver was a 39-year-old Uzbek national, without naming him.

The Islamic Dar-al-Fatwa center condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the families of the victims and sympathized with those injured in the attack.

The Swedish Council of Prayer Leaders also slammed the act of terrorism, stressing that such actions have no place in Islam and are considered absolutely unjustifiable.

The council also called on prayer leaders of mosques to hold a rally in condemnation of the incident and elaborate on Islam’s stance against terrorism in their Friday prayer sermons.

The Imam Ali (AS) Islamic Center (AS) of Sweden also released a statement in which it condemned the attack that led to the deaths of innocent people.

It said such barbaric actions should strengthen global resolve to decisively tackle the threat of terrorism.

Islamic bodies around the world, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have also censured the terrorist attack.

In a statement released by the organization on Saturday, OIC Secretary-General Youssef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen said that he had been "shocked by this tragic incident”, offering his condolences to the Swedish government and families of the victims.

He also expressed the 57-nation organization’s support of Sweden following the deadly attack.

No terrorist organization, including the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
