Over 2700 Taking Part in Itikaf at Jamkaran Mosque

TEHRAN (IQNA) – More than 2700 faithful are participating in the spiritual ritual of Itikaf (religious retreat) at the holy Jamkaran Mosque in Qom, central Iran.

According to the mosque’s public relations office, there are 1250 men and 1500 women attending the religious ritual, which began on Tuesday.

Hojat-ol-Islam Yasin Hosseinabadi, director of the mosque, said recitation of supplications, holding congregational prayers, elegy and eulogy recitations, and speeches by religious scholars are among the programs at the mosque in the three-day ritual.

He added that the participants are from different parts of the country.

Itikaf, in the Islamic faith, is a particularly commended pious practice consisting of a period of retreat in a mosque, for a certain number of days in accordance with the believer’s own wish.

Those taking part in the spiritual ritual sit in mosques and fast and pray the almighty God during the three days of Itikaf.
