TEHRAN (IQNA) – A young Nigerian Quran memorizer who came second in the international Quran competition for school students said such Quranic events help to promote learning and memorizing the Holy Book.

Hassineh Thalith Yunus, who took part in the girls’ section of the competition, said it was her first appearance in an international Quranic event.

Speaking to IQNA, she expressed great pleasure at winning the title, thanking God for the achievement.

Hassineh said Quranic events like this are venues for encouraging the youth to learn the Quran and enhancing unity among Muslims.

She also thanked Iran for organizing the event and for the "excellent” programs held for the participants on the sidelines of the contest.

As for Quranic activities in Nigeria, she said there are many Quranic centers in the African country that offer courses on Quran recitation, memorization and Tajweed.

Students also learn the Quran at schools, Hassineh went on to say.

In the past few days, Iran hosted five international Quranic events with the participation of 276 Quran activists from 83 countries.

They included international Quran contests for women, the visually-impaired, school students and seminary students.
