He will represent the Islamic Republic of Iran in the recitation category of the contest.

The international Quranic event was scheduled to kick off on Sunday night but the inauguration ceremony was postponed to Monday night.

Speaking to IQNA last month, Alizadeh said he hoped to win the top title in the competition.

"I will do my best to be deserving of representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in this competition,” he said.

Alizadeh said that since he was selected to compete for Iran in Malaysia’s Quranic event, he spent a lot of time to prepare for the contest.

Malaysia holds the international Quran competition every year with the participation of Quran reciters and memorizers from various countries.

Last year, Iran’s Seyed Mostafa Hosseini came fourth in the contest.

In 2015, Mohsen Hajihassni Kargar from Iran won the first rank in the recitation category of the competition.
