TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran competition, featuring memorization of Surah Yaseen, was held in New York earlier this week.

The contest, organized by al-Kafeel International Relations Center, affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine in Karbala, Iraq, was attended by 40 Quran memorizers residing in the states of New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia.

The contestants were originally from countries like Lebanon, Bahrain, Iran, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan and other Muslim countries, according to al-Kafeel website.

They competed in two age groups of children and adults, and winners were awarded at a ceremony in Imam Ali (AS) Center in New York.

Addressing the awarding ceremony, Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Javad Salami, the managing director of the al-Kafeel center, thanked the contestants and organizers of the contest and stressed that all of the participants were winners for having made efforts to memorize the Quran.

He added that the competition is planned to be held in the city every year.
