TEHRAN (IQNA) – Prominent Egyptian Quran reciter Farajullah Shazli who died on Monday will be laid to rest in his home village today.

According to nimsawi website, Shazli died at a hospital in Cairo. He had just returned from a trip to Austria.

His funeral will be held Tuesday in the village of Armania in Beheira Governorate, north of Egypt.

Shazli was born in Armania in 1948. He started learning the Quran by heart at an early age and managed to memorize the entire Holy Book at 8.

He also mastered the ten styles of recitation of the Quran.

In 1971, he entered Egypt’s Qara’at (Quran recitations) Center and graduated from the center in 1979.

He got a PhD from al-Azhar Islamic University in 2004.

He was a Muezzin at al-Azhar Mosque and the secretary general of Egypt’s Quran Reciters Union for years.

He travelled to Iran several times to recite the Quran and serve as a member of panels of judges in the country’s international Quran contests.

After reciting the Adhan (call to prayers) in the Shia style during a trip to Iraq in 2010, Salafist started criticizing him and calling for a ban on Egyptian Qaris’ trips to Iran and Iraq.
