According to Al-Bayan newspaper, the copies were distributed under the supervision of Hamd ibn Al-Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sheibani, head of "Sheikh Maktoum” Committee for Printing Quran.
Umar Al-Khatib, the vice president of the committee, said that the charity plan was part of the department’s activities in the holy month aiming to meet the needs of Muslims to the Holy Book in different parts of the world.
The Quran copies were sent to Bangladesh, Iraq, Djibouti, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan and Armenia.
During Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar, Muslims all over the world fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.
They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
This year, Ramadan began on Saturday, May 27.
