TEHRAN (IQNA) – In his special Nuzul Al Quran (Quran revelation day) message, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said the Holy Book is a protector to anyone who reads, understands and practices its teachings in their daily lives.

Malaysian PM Stresses on Mercy, Humanity in Nuzul Al Quran Message

"The recent 59th International Tilawah Al-Quran competition was testament to the maturity and ability of Malaysia to instill Quranic values in the soul of every Malaysian Muslim.

"Our country not only emphasizes material development, but human capital is also a priority and is the decisive factor behind clear economic and social progress," he said in his blog.

He noted, however, that the appreciation of the sanctity of the Quran this Ramadhan has been marred by incidents of mass murder and violence committed by so-called Muslims in the name of Islam.

This is contrary to the teachings of the Quran, which emphasizes mercy, humanity and justice, he said.

"If left unaddressed, surely the immaculate image of the Quran will be cloaked with negative perceptions," he added.

Najib said Muslims must work towards upholding the Quran and its teachings, as well as rejecting all attempts to link Islam with violence and extremism.

Nuzul Al-Quran is a Muslim holiday in Malaysia during the holy month of Ramadan, on which the beginning of the revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is celebrated.
