Int’l Quran Contest Underway in Jordan

According to al-Ray newspaper, a number of Jordanian officials, including Wael Arabiyat, the Awqaf and Islamic Affairs minister, took part in the opening ceremony.

In an address, Arabiyat underlined that the unity that the Muslim world needs more than ever can be achieved by contemplating and understanding the verses of the Quran.

He also said that Muslims need to resort to the Quran to counter those who seek to highjack Islam and tarnish its image.

This is the 25th edition of the international Quranic event, named al-Hashemi Quran Award.

Representatives of more than 30 countries are taking part in the competition.

Iran’s contender is Abuzar Karami, a memorizer of the entire Quran.

Quran master Hamid Reza Mostafid is accompanying him as a guide.

Last year, Ali Asadi Seifar who represented Iran did not win any ranks in the competition.
